Bluemont is looking for volunteers to help plan, support and present this year’s First Night Warrenton, family-friendly celebration of the arts on New Year’s Eve in historic Old Town Warrenton. The event features more than 45 outstanding live performances at several indoor locations, all within walking distance. The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association (NPBA) again hosts a seven-week class for those interested in becoming beekeepers. Classes begin Feb. 2 and and are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class “meet-and-greet” is 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 31. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course fee of $100 per person or family. Pre-registration required. Free VITA income tax preparation is available on Saturdays, Jan. 30 through April 9,  at St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton,  throughout the tax season with IRS trained volunteers. Kids Bible Club (for first- through fourth-graders) of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church meets after school, 3:30 to 5, every Wednesday. Healthy snacks, music and song, Bible lessons, crafts and monitored outdoor activities and games. The Blue Ridge Singers welcome adventurous singers 16 and older. The group’s repertoire spans contemporary composers (e.g., Lauridsen, Gjeilo, Runestad), the Renaissance, the 17th through 20th centuries and Broadway musicals. The ability to read music is a plus; a fast ear works, too. Rehearsals are Tuesday nights in Stephens City; concerts are presented in December and April in Frederick, Warren and Prince William counties. Sit-n-Knit at the Knit Wit Yarn Shop, 45 Main Street, Sperryville (next to the post office) is every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. (until 8ish).
