Virginia Cooperative Extension offers a Food Safety Training ServSafe Food Handler Course, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday (March 15) at the Rappahannock Extension office (311-J Gay St., Washington). The course covers personal hygiene, controlling time and temperature, preventing cross contamination and cleaning and sanitizing and was developed by the National Restaurant Association for employees of food-service operations, such as hotels, restaurants, schools and institutions. Local 2016 NAACP scholarship applications are now available for high school seniors interested in continuing their education at a 2- or 4-year postsecondary institution. Priority will be given to those students from traditionally underrepresented, underserved and marginalized populations who exhibit financial need and demonstrate academic promise and a dedication to improving their community. Students who reside in the service area of Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock counties can obtain an application from their high school guidance office. Piedmont Softball Association in Amissville is registering players now. Girls from Rappahannock and surrounding counties born anytime from 1997 through 2010 are welcome to join us. PSA offers every opportunity to develop all fastpitch softball skills – beginner through advanced – while having fun: local-league through tournament play; weekly dedicated pitching/catching practices; and individual attention for every player.
