We are thrilled here at the Child Care and Learning Center to share that the SeedMoney Grant, which Nicole Loch set up for us, has raised $425 at seedmoney.org!
We thank all of you who’ve donated to this online fundraiser. Donations came from parents, grandparents, alumni of CCLC and many other supporters of our program. Ms. Loch is a special parent who supports our efforts in building our gardens and teaching our students about growing and eating fresh foods.
She heard last fall that one of our dreams was to build a second garden to complement our “Edible Learning Garden” outdoor classroom. This second garden is right inside our playground, so that the fun of gardening could be available throughout the day and integrated into other forms of discovery play on the playground.
At CCLC we want children to understand the source of their food. Every child at CCLC spends two days each week with the Children-in-Nature Program, lead by teacher Christina Loock. With this new second garden, Nicole Loch, mom of 4½-year-old Ethan, has made it possible with this grant for the children to enjoy snacking “garden to mouth” every day during their playground time. As a middle school teacher herself, Ms. Loch knows that teaching young children good healthy practices early in life builds lifelong positive habits. The children have helped to make this garden possible this spring by building the raised garden boxes and giant bean teepee and preparing the soil needed for these beds. The garden boxes were filled with the children today, but will hold years of fresh green produce seeded, tended, and harvested by children for years to come.
Thank you to Nicole, Brian and Ethan Loch for making this SeedMoney grant possible for CCLC. Thank you to all those that contributed to this fundraiser making this playground garden possible.
