As a followup to your photo of my mom, Phyllis Swindler, tending the Veteran’s Memorial in the Sperryville Cemetery, I would like to acknowledge others who have donated their time in like fashion. Particularly I’d like to note that several of our local high school students — National Honor Society members Julia Estes, John Norris, Ellie Young and Kayla Brown — all recently volunteered multiple hours of community service to conduct a spring cleanup of the Sperryville Cemetery.
Our community is a better place thanks to the efforts of my mom, those students and countless others like them who selflessly give their time for the benefit of others here in Rappahannock County. Thank you for publicizing their efforts, not because they do it for the attention (which they do not) but rather because I hope this publicity will inspire others of all ages to give back to our community in a similar manner.
With great appreciation,
