Rappahannock County Public Schools’ annual school surplus auction is 5 p.m. this Friday (Aug. 19) at the county bus shop (6 Schoolhouse Rd., Washington). Bidders must be registered on site by 5 p.m.; all sales final with no warranties. Purchases must be completed at time of sale, cash or personal checks accepted, and picked up by the auction’s conclusion. Items include vehicles, two- and four-drawer metal file cabinets, bookcases, office chairs, desks, metal appliances, a cabinet welder and a drill press. The Rappahannock Quilt Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is on Sept. 13 at the Amissville Methodist Church (14670 Lee Hwy.). The Town of Washington’s Planning Commission meets 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at town hall to continue the town’s comprehensive plan review. Members of the public are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

Fauquier Habitat for Humanity will hold a community meeting every Thursday at 5 p.m. at Willis Chapel United Methodist Church, 1804 Zachary Taylor Highway, Huntly, to discuss the Habitat Home being built at 2650 Zachary Taylor Highway. Blue Ridge Heritage Project’s upcoming meetings are 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 and Dec. 13 at the Rappahannock Library, for any and all interested in the memorial to be built in Rappahannock County honoring those displaced from their homes and land in Rappahannock when Shenandoah National Park was created. The Youth Chorale needs at least 15 singers by Aug. 27. Registrations must be prepaid and mailed in — all fees paid will be held and returned if the minimum number of singers are not met.
