Cubbing into fall

By Sheila WhaleyBy Sheila Whaley

Jeff Woodall, huntsman for Old Dominion Hounds, is shown on a cubhunting (or “cubbing”) — run last Thursday at Poes Run, a property on North Poes Road. The cubhunting outings are short, early-morning, early-season training runs for riders and hounds, particularly new hounds, for which the dress is casual (“ratcatcher” is the hunt term for tweed coats and brown boots). The scarlet coats will be on when the season proper begins in late October.
