The eagle, eyed well

Photos by Bruce Jones

In the pond on Thanksgiving afternoon at Bruce and Susan Jones’ private nature preserve — aka their home on Long Mountain — this bald eagle spent more than 15 minutes, Bruce Jones reports, “bathing in our pond … sitting on a submerged snag straight out from our house!” Jones said the bird kept a wary eye on its surroundings, but at least one human observer was able to take more than 50 photos. After the bath, Jones says, the eagle flew to a nearby tree and preened for another half hour. “This made our Thanksgiving a real highlight! What a majestic bird!”
