To the firehouse

It’s tradition that the kindergarten class of Rappahannock County Elementary School make an annual field trip to Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue at 10 Firehouse Lane. Apart from hands-on demonstrations, each of the children, including those seen here from Mrs. Payne’s class, were delighted to try on the firefighters’ weighty fireproof jackets.

The all-volunteer department, like others in the county, responds to 911 fire and medical emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. This Saturday, Oct. 14, the fall oyster and ham dinner will be held at the firehouse from 4 to 8 p.m., featuring all you can eat oysters, ham, and many delectable sides and desserts. The important fundraiser will supply much needed revenue to the department.
