Spreading ‘fake news’

It seems that misinformation (à la fake news) is a galvanizing force for the attempted overthrow of the Board of Supervisors in Rappahannock County, much as it was in the national election.

Much has been made of the bike trail and what it will cost the county. The fact is the county is merely a conduit or ‘pass-through’ organization receiving funds for the trail from a VDOT grant and passing it on to an experienced contractor responsible for building the trail. The PATH Foundation and private donors are already committed to covering costs not paid by the grant.

Board members have made no commitments of county funds. They have not obligated taxpayers to pay even a penny for the trail or maintenance, today or in the future. This is not the football field lighting where the county was on the hook for a loan. Whether you like the idea of a bike trail or hate it, let’s stick to the facts and not the fabrications. The last thing we need is more fake news.
