Proud to be Rappahannock
Rappahannock keeps rising higher into national and international esteem, not only for the majestic and pastoral beauty of the Blue Ridge and rolling fields, but for the colorful and creative spirit of the people who live here. The latest in a string of recognition of local talent came Tuesday in The New York Times with Virginia Chutney – owned by Clare and Nevill Turner of Washington – honored by Times food writer Marian Burros in her annual list of culinary Christmas gifts.
Several Rappahannock vineyards have already been recognized, as has The Inn at Little Washington – selected as the best hotel restaurant in the world by Travel & Leisure Magazine this year – and this past summer, world renowned chef Alain Ducasse praised the work of chef Tom Nash of the Thornton River Grille.
It is such a blessing to live in a county brimming with creative talent and energy, not only culinary but also painters, photographers, writers, publishers, musicians, filmmakers, gardeners, farmers and a burgeoning local food movement that is leading a wave toward better living and sustainable agriculture.
There are also leaders in environmental protection, and this county in particular has set an enviable example for the rest of Virginia in how to preserve farmland and keep development at bay.
Rappahannock, we hope you continue to lead the way.
