Vacation Bible School 'a huge success'
Washington Baptist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church concluded their 2008 joint Vacation Bible School on June 27.
This year's school was "a huge success" with 39 students enrolled and 41 helpers, said the Rev. Phil Bailey of Washington Baptist Church. The theme of this year's program was Friendship Trek: Jesus, Our Forever Friend.
An offering was taken each day for Our Little Roses orphanage for girls in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. This ministry is sponsored by the Episcopal denomination. They were delighted to receive $663.93 to help these young girls in need of a home and education.
Book signing party
Rappahannock resident and former congressman Ben Jones will sign his new book, "Redneck Boy in the Promised Land – The Confessions of 'Crazy Cooter' on Saturday, July 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at a book party at the Middleton Inn on Main Street in Washington. Everyone is invited.
'Tasty Tuesday' dinner club
Susan and Keir Whitson hosted the monthly Tasty Tuesday dinner club on June 24 at their home on Harris Hollow Road.
The club was started in 2007. Attendees at this month’s dinner included the club's founding members: Joanie and Robert Ballard, Jay Brown and Kevin Adams, Diane and John MacPherson, and Adrienne and Jeff Smith. Margaret Brown, also one of the founding members of the club, was unable to attend due to recent surgery. Prior to the four -course dinner, guests enjoyed cocktails and conversation on the Whitson's back porch while enjoying views of The Peak.
Congratulations
Washington Mayor Gene Leggett and his wife, Clarissa, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary June 28 with a quiet dinner at the Inn at Little Washington.
Belated birthday wishes go out to a special lady, Helen Smoot, of Washington. She celebrated her day on June 28.
Gary & Michelle Schwartz of the Heritage House B&B just returned from a four-day cruise with Michelle's family to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. They were celebrating the high school graduations of their nieces, Courtney and Kristen. Many of you may remember Courtney and Kristen from their annual summer visits to their aunt and uncle's home (beginning when they were 12 years old).
