Rappahannock Cellars receives top award

Rappahannock Cellars 2006 Cabernet Franc was awarded a “Double Gold” medal and named “Best in its Category” at the 2008 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Best of Category defines the wine as the Best Cabernet Franc. The 2006 Cabernet Franc also was awarded a Double Gold” medal at the Tasters Guild International Wine Competition.

Rappahannock Cellars lead Virginia wineries in the competition with its Double Gold, along with a gold medal for its 2007 Viognier and a bronze medal for its 2007 Seyval Blanc, according to a press release from the winery. It also has been awarded gold, silver and bronze medals at a variety of competitions so far this year including the Finger Lakes International Competition, the National Womens Wine Competition, the Pacific Rim International, The Tasters Guild International Wine Competition and the San Diego International Wine Competition, according to a press release.

“It is always an honor for our wines to be recognized in such a significant way by an esteemed competition such as the San Francisco International Competition,” said Rappahannock Cellars' proprietor John Delmare. “It’s especially significant that both our Cabernet Franc and Viognier, were honored in light of the growing prominence of these varietals in Virginia.” The awards “continue to be a great compliment to our winemaking team, consisting of winemaker Jason Burrus and vineyard manager Tom Kelly,” said Delmare.
