'A sign of a healthy democracy at work'
By Bill Freitag/Flint Hill
Amy Hitt’s article in the July 3 edition of the Rappahannock News makes a rather sweeping claim where the title suggests “all the other schools” have something. This use of “all schools” could mean 100 percent of schools in the USA or could it mean lots of schools in Virginia, or some in Fairfax. Some schools even have crew (rowing) programs. Should we have that here in the county?
But I digress. My real argument with her article is the paragraph dealing with the fight over night lights getting monotonous. Her point that “This county needs to watch out – someone, in the very near future, is going to start challenging every ordinance and restriction that is in this county….”
I certainly hope we never end the discussion (or fight) over issues affecting the people of our county. When the bureaucrats and politicians have no opposition to their programs, that’s when we all will be in deep trouble. The airing of different opinions may seem monotonous to her, but in my book, that’s the sign of a healthy democracy at work.
