Wheelchairs, crutches, beds - free to use, for the asking

Volunteers at the Rappahannock Convalescent Loan Closet in Sperryville would like everyone to know they are there to help.

Since 1987 Loan Closet volunteers have been providing, free of charge, an array of items useful to those who are convalescing from surgery or an accident or who are elderly and need items.

The Loan Closet supplies wheelchairs, hospital beds, shower benches, raised toilet seats, commodes, crutches, canes, walkers and much more.

Since some of the items are expensive to buy these days, the Loan Closet fills an invaluable role by providing items for free to any and all who need then, volunteers said.

The equipment is loaned for a period of three months; if an extension is needed, one can call volunteers for permission to keep the loaned equipment for a longer period of time.

The Loan Closet is located at 11929 Lee Highway in front of Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance. Its space has been donated by the Virginia Farm Bureau.

As a charity, the Loan Closet welcomes donations of time, money and medical equipment. If anyone has free time to give and would like to help out, contact Ellen Pullen at 540-987-3316 or Mary Williams at 540-675-3765.
