Creating a solution of sustainability
Let me first thank all of the people who took time out of their busy schedules to come show their support for the proposed venture of renovating the Miller Farm. I greatly appreciate it.I understand politics in all of its forms and, unfortunately, it has not been pretty in this case. I am surprised at the opposition to and misunderstanding about the George Miller application and I'd like to clarify what I propose to do. What I propose is not a large unsightly convention center, as the opponents have mis-characterized and exaggerated, but a tasteful inn in a beautiful rural setting that would accommodate the growing demand for venues for weddings and other similar functions. This would enable us to maintain the Miller Farm as it is now and provide jobs for County residents.
Approval of this application would support my family's need and those of the County in the least disruptive way and, judging from the turnout of supporters at Monday's hearing, the majority of County residents feel that way as well. It was a pleasure for me to see that so many people in the county understand that farmers need to adapt and find innovative ways for their farms in order to maintain the County's open spaces.
Because of a technicality the application will have to be refiled, and I am grateful to the County Administrator, John McCarthy, and the County Attorney, Peter Luke, for pointing this out and for their always professional and supportive conduct. It is our intention to continue to work with the County to create a solution of sustainability for the George Miller Farm.
Again I appreciate the support shown for the application and for the protection of Rappahannock County.
