Rollins on a roll

The Panthers spent the early afternoon of April 30 traveling to Manassas Park to battle the Cougars. Although team results were disappointing, it was another meet where several Rapp athletes touted admirable individual results.
Head Coach Scott Stephens reported, "[The Panther boys] had only four places against a very talented Manassas Park team." For the boys, Daniel Rollins placed high in two events: he took first in the 100 meter dash with his quick 11.3 second time, and he won second in the 200 meter dash with 23.7. Brook Stokes also ran in the 100 meter event and earned a third place win in 12 seconds. Another third place honor went to Zack Wayland for his finish in the 800 meter run.
"The girls fared slightly better" during their competitions. Several Lady Panthers placed in the upper rankings, and a few placed well in more than one event. Not only did Jocelyn Smith take home a third place win in the 100 meter dash (14.9), but "she was also a member of the winning 4 X 100 relay." The other victors in that event were Carly Day, Sally Hutcheson, and Ashley Armor. Armor, like Smith, earned one of the top slots in the 100 meter dash with her second place, 14.8 second finish. The final, double winner was Courtney Yowell who threw both the shot and the discus for two third place awards.
Two more Panther girls ended strong in their events. Colleen Daly earned second place (1:19.8) in the 400 meter run, while Marie Scavetti garnered some bragging rights with a second place finish and an admirable time of 19.3 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles.
In the midst of team losses, the Rapp Track and Field team produced memorable moments. Coach Mike Williams said that "the highlight of the meet was Daniel Rollins winning the 100 meter and 200 meter in come-from-behind fashion." Coach Stephens echoed the optimism when he said, "Like last week this was a week for personal bests and we are continuing to get better, faster and stronger every week."
The Panther Track and Field Team will host its final home meet on May 7th at 5 p.m.
