This week in Owl athletics

Varsity Girls Basketball
The Owls dropped a tough Cavalier Athletic Conference game at Shenandoah Valley Academy on Feb. 16. The Owls struggled to score, and the Stars cruised to an easy 67-11 victory. Our record is 6-6.

Varsity Boys Basketball
The Owls traveled to Shenandoah Valley Academy on Feb. 16 for a CAC game. The boys played tough and were down just nine points at half time. The athletic Stars scored 28 points in the third quarter to put the game away. The final score was 82-43. We were led in scoring by Andrew Smith with 26 points. Brain Shafran added 8 points. We were led in rebounding by Adrian Wassel with 23 rebounds. Smith also had 11 rebounds for a double-double. Our record stands at 10-5.

Varsity Swimming
Madison Mulvey competed in the Delaney Athletic Conference swimming championship on Saturday Feb. 13. She placed third in both of her events. She swam the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 1:31.64 and the 100 Freestyle in 1:10.80. Madison scored 24 points which was enough to beat the entire team score from Quantico High School!

Middle School Boys Basketball
The Owls were on the road and dropped a Valley Middle School Conference game at Randolph-Macon Academy on Feb. 3. The Owls struggled to score in the first half and dug too big a hole to get out of. The final score was 40-31. The Owls traveled to St. Joseph’s for a Valley Middle School Conference semi-final tournament game on 2/16. The boys struggled to score in the first half and only netted two points in the half. Our effort was much better in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome our slow start. The final score, 23-14, knocked the Owls out of the tournament. Our final record was 9-3. The boys were undefeated at home for the season with a record of 5-0.

Middle School Girls Basketball
The Owls hosted Randolph-Macon for a VMSC semi-final tournament game on Feb. 16. The entire team contributed to the 31-11 victory. We were led in scoring by Maeve Dale. The girls advanced to host the VMSC Championship on 2/18.

The Owls capped off a special season with a victory in the VMSC finals over St. Joseph’ Parrish School on Feb. 17. Maeve Dale led the team in scoring with 11 points despite being double-teamed the entire game. Ashlyn Ramey was a big contributor on offense scoring in double figures with 10 points. The Owls got Strong defensive efforts from Emily Hennessy, Kim Pankow and Madison Romine to secure an undefeated season! We finished with a 12-0 record. Congratulations to the team and Coach Pankow for a truly wonderful season! This is the first undefeated season at Wakefield Country Day School in recent history.

Thursday Feb. 25-VGBB at Fredericksburg Academy in the DAC away 4:30 p.m.
Semi-Finals (girls need to be at WCDS by 2 pm)
Friday Feb. 26-VBBB in the DAC Semi-Finals vs. Quantic Home 4:30 p.m. or Tandem
Saturday, Feb. 27-VGBB in the DAC Championship at Highland School, away 1p.m., (depending on the outcome of game on Feb. 25).
Saturday, Feb. 27-VBBB in the DAC Championship at Highland School Away 3 p.m.(depending on the outcome of game on Feb. 26).
