The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department are the proud new owners of a 2010 Ford F-350 four-door pickup truck. The new piece of emergency response equipment was purchased with a grant from the Loeb Foundation.
The pick-up with its four-wheel-drive capabilities and eight-foot cargo bed is just what was need by this little mountaintop department to respond to various emergencies throughout the area — whether it’s by carrying additional manpower to the scene or being able to access areas unreachable by traditional fire and rescue equipment pieces.
The truck was slightly damaged earlier this year when the roof of the building in which it was stored caved in due to last month’s extreme amount of snow. Fortunately, though, the damage was almost entirely cosmetic and not only was it repaired but the vehicle now sports the department’s colors of black over red as well! It is a sharp-looking operating vehicle and should serve the department as well as this community very well for years to come.
50th Anniversary celebration
You can see the new utility piece as well as all of the other emergency response equipment as well as the men and women who operate them this Saturday evening by coming out and helping the Chester Gap department celebrate it’s 50th anniversary.
The times were changed to social hour starting at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6, which should be fine as it will allow just that much more time for folks to visit afterwards. The department is really setting up for a nice dinner with all of you folks bringing the side dishes. By the way friends, I’m right fond of lemon meringue pie and sweet potato casserole so feel free if you’re still up in the air over what to bring.
Either way this should be one heck of an event with all founding, life, former and current members invited and awards to be presented, and what with the wonderful food and fellowship I for one am more than ready for Saturday to get here! So, folks, if you haven’t already planned on attending by all means mark your calendars and join us this Saturday night to commemorate this milestone in the department’s history and the opening of the door to its future.
