Amissville’s Barbara Lohre does her part to protect the Gulf Coast by saving dog hair. The proprietor of Southpaw Pet Salon on Indian Run Road grooms and boards dogs and here grooms Tillie, a Hungarian Puli. While chatting on the Web with other groomers, she learned they were saving dog hair, effective in sopping up oil. Noting that beauty salons are saving human hair for the same reason, Lohre said that “there’s a lot more dog than human hair available.” The Web site matteroftrust.org is organizing the volunteer effort. Lohre earns no money by helping out but the payoff is in satisfaction. Lohre’s grooming and boarding business is also on the Web at southpawpetsalon.com, or call her at 540-937-6331.
