Mexican standout

Parents of Rappahannock High seniors attending last weekend’s Senior Banquet — a dinner and local tradition at the school paid for and served by teachers and staff, with decorations handled by parents — pretty much outdid themselves this year. The Mexico/beach theme transformed the entrance hall at the school, all the way to the “dining room,” complete with life-size paper-mache figures (and a golden sun) by Peggy Schadler, six-foot high painted-cardboard houses, real weathered-wood fences and “barns,” hand-painted signs and handmade tiny maracas as take-home table favors. Parent Lori Crochet-Dore, who chaired the decoration committee, said much of the work was done by parents Amy Burnett, Marlana Lee, Beth and Bob Wellemeyer, Kevin Day, Linda Torrance, Camille Racer and Al Dore. “There was an amazing collection of talent,” she said. “I am proud to say these are just a few of the parents who helped to create an evening in which we were able to honor our children.”
