Middle Street Gallery offers own stimulus

The Middle Street Gallery, a 15-person, nonprofit artists cooperative based in Rappahannock County, will mount its own “economic stimulus” initiative next month.

Affordable paintings, photographs and sculpture by its members will be on sale from July 2 through Aug. 1.

The gallery is calling the exhibition, one of several group shows put on each year, “Take It or Leave It,” because the moderately priced works may be taken away immediately on purchase rather than left until the end of the show.

“What makes this show different is that it’s a ‘cash-and-carry’ deal,” says gallery president Patti Brennan. “We are promoting good art for a reasonable price.”

“We want more people to be able to own more art, hence the smaller, more portable size of the pieces for the show,” says member artist Linda Tarry. “And there’s the instant gratification by being able to take it home on the day of purchase.”

The gallery will host a reception for artists and the public from 2 to 5 p.m. on July 3.

The Middle Street Gallery is located next to The Inn at Little Washington. Hours are 11 to 6 Friday through Sunday. For more information, visit the Web site at www.middlestreetgallery.org or call the gallery on weekends at 540-675-3440.
