Pankeys celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Woodville native Mary Rudasill Pankey and her husband F. Lawson Pankey are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their wedding, which took place at Woodville Baptist Church on Aug. 19, 1950.

The couple now resides in Richmond. They were joined by their four children and their families for an anniversary celebration.

Among Mary’s bridal attendants were her sister, the late Jane Rudasill Hopkins, and Hilda Bailey Spencer. Mary and Hilda were among the 12-member graduating class of Sperryville High School in 1945. Mary’s other sister, Louise Rudasill O’Bannon resides at the family homestead in Woodville. Rudasill Mill Road in Woodville is named after their grandfather, “Dallas” Rudasill.

Mrs. O’Bannon’s son John was the bride’s ringbearer and is now a member of the Virginia House of Delgates. Mrs. O’Bannon’s three other children currently reside in the area with their families. They are Robert O’Bannon, Beth Scott, and Martha Hitt, who is proprietor of the Sperryville Emporium.
