Sports: JP runners rise up at home meet

Rapp’s Junior Panthers prowled into action on their home cross country course this week. Monday’s meet against Fresta Valley, Wakefield, Bethel Christian School and Riverfront Christian School was an all-around confidence booster for the young team.

The boys’ team of Gavin Jenkins, Andrew Kopjanski and Gus Norris finished first out of four schools. Their victory saw “Jenkins fighting off a surprising Wakefield boy for first place, and Norris finishing third — over two minutes before fourth place crossed the finish line,” said coach James Sharpe.

Running for the girls’ team were: Emily Allen, Kathryn Fisher, Kaitlyn Fisher and Julia Wood.  According to coach Sharpe, “Wood blew away the competition, coming in first by finishing a couple minutes before second place.” Overall, the girls earned second place to Wakefield’s first.

Coach Sharpe reflected on the competition by saying, “We have been improving quickly over the season and should challenge Wakefield in the championship race.”
