On Thursday, Oct. 7 the Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County courthouse on Gay Street.
On Monday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, the town of Washington will hold a joint public hearing of the Town Council and the Planning Commission to consider and adopt a new Section 13.2 regarding signage of the Historic District Ordinance. Immediately following the joint public hearing, the Town Council will hold its regularly scheduled Council meeting. Highlights from the agenda include a wastewater update, the appointment of a Planning Commission member, consideration of a proposal from country water systems to inspect the town reservoir, the announcement of an ARB vacancy, and authorization of new bank account signatures.
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Rappahannock County School Board will meet in a 7 p.m. closed session and a 7:30 p.m. public session in the RCHS band room.
The town of Washington is seeking letters from residents interested in being nominated to serve on the Planning Commission. Town council will consider appointments on Oct. 11. Drop off a letter of interest to Washington Town Hall, 485 Gay St., Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or fax to 540-675-1742, or mail to P.O. Box 7, Washington, VA, 22747, or e-mail to washingtonva @earthlink.net. All letters of interest must be received by close of business on Oct. 8.
Rappahannock County government offices, the Rappahannock National Bank, BB&T Bank and Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle customer service centers will be closed on Oct. 11 in observance of Columbus Day.
Rappahannock County tax bills for 2010 have been mailed and must be paid or postmarked on or before Dec. 5, to avoid penalty. Failure to receive a bill through the mail does not relieve the taxpayer of any additional charges that will accrue under law for failure to pay within the prescribed time. If you are interested in participating in this year’s artisans market during the Christmas in Little Washington festival on Sunday, Dec. 5, contact Kim Nelson at firstname.lastname@example.org or Kevin Adams at email@example.com to apply for space or call 540-675-3288. Please include a representative photo and description of the type of work you would like to sell. The annual artisans market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two locations – RAAC Community Theater and Town Hall. There is a $35 fee to participate, payable when you are notified of acceptance. Applications are accepted until the markets are full. Participating artisans are showing handmade baskets, iron work, stained glass, pottery and jewelry.
The public is invited to attend the Superintendent Dr. Aldridge Boone’s “State of the Schools” address to the community. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Rappahannock County High School Auditorium. Copies of the school division’s annual report will be available at that time.
