Letter: A whole lotta litter

Budweiser. Bud Light. Busch Light. Coors Light. Miller Lite. Schweppes. McDonald’s. Burger King. Marlboro. Pall Mall. Fritos. Nutri-Grain. Capri Sun. These are a few of the brands favored by people who litter on State Route 729 in my neighborhood.

My husband and I just collected a heaping grocery bag of litter from a very short stretch of 729 in Amissville, and it’s not the first time.

We moved here six months ago for the spectacular natural beauty that surrounds us. I feel both sad and mad that some people show a gross disrespect for the land and their neighbors as evidenced by the abundance of litter I see on our local roads.

Is it time to revive the “Don’t Be a Litterbug” public service campaign of my youth?

As I write this it occurs to me that readers of this newspaper are not likely to be the offenders. But if you are, please stop littering. And if you know people who litter, please give them a piece of my mind.
