Wakefield Country Day School’s Rachel DuMez was named the Outstanding Female Swimmer at the Delaney Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 12. She continued her season of brilliance, easily winning both of her events, the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke, breaking her previous DAC record in the backstroke. She earned the top honors as the female swimmer of the meet for the second big meet in a row.
The following weekend, DuMez was the only Wakefield swimmer at the VISAA State Meet. She swam to a 13th best time in the prelims of the 100 fly on Friday, and held her place when she swam finals that evening. On Saturday, she swam to a personal best time in the 100 backstroke in the morning swim and earned a place in the ‘A’ finals heat. Once again, she held her place, finishing 7th over-all to earn a medal for her finish.
By herself, she finished in the top 10 in the State in the team competition.
