RCSSA comes up $25,000 light

The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors paid the bills as part of its regular monthly meeting Monday afternoon at the courthouse, but one of them — for roughly $25,000 — came as a surprise.

Three years ago, the Rappahannock County School Sports Association (RCSSA) helped finance the purchase and installation of lights at the baseball, softball and football/soccer fields with a $100,000 donation and by borrowing $295,000. The county secured the loan, using its credit rating.

The annual loan payment is more than $35,000. For the 2011 payment, however, RCSSA was able to supply just $10,000, and asked the county to make up the difference. The organization, which plays a large role in supporting school sports at the county’s public schools, also came up short for last year’s payment . . .
