RCHS band, colorguard take firsts at Fall Marching Classic

The Rappahannock County High School band picked up more honors at last weekend’s Fall Marching Classic (held Saturday, Oct. 8 at Manassas Park High School).

Within the single A division the Marching Panthers won: 3rd Place Marching; 1st Place Colorguard; 1st Place Music; 1st Place General Effect; 1st Place Percussion; First Place Single A Band!!!

The highlight of the night was the colorguard’s first-place trophy. This has been their highest achievement since we began to rebuild the colorguard team in the summer of 2008.

Not only did the colorguard earn first place in the Single A division — they placed second for the entire day out of 12 bands/colorguards. The also earned a rating of superior with a score of 85.

The colorguard members are Eleasha Clement (Colorguard Captain) and Kayla and Caitlin Campbell. Their instructor is Stephanie DeBoer.

“I am very proud of the hard work that the colorguard has put into this season,” said Stephanie DeBoer. “The routines and drill this year are demanding and they consistently prove that they are up to the challenge. I could not ask for a better group of students to teach.”

Within a marching band the colorguard provides emotion and a visual representation of the music through the use of dance and routines with equipment such as different flags and rifles.
