If you haven’t realized it, this is a wonderful, charitable and giving community.
As many of you know, Rappahannock County Elementary School recently redid our playground.
This has been a journey I will remember all the days of my life, because this has been one of the best community experiences I have ever been a part of.
When it all started it was exciting, then reality hit with decisions and money matters. Finally, all that got settled, materials and equipment were ordered and that’s when I witnessed a community coming together for these wonderful children who only deserve the best we can provide.
Notes were sent and ads placed for volunteers, and don’t you know, they were asked to come, and they did, in droves, wonderful people coming together.
Which brings me to the purpose of my letter to the editor today – the “people.” I would like for Rappahannock to know who has helped to give us such a wonderful area for our children to enjoy.
Unending hours of machine use from Paul Brown, Terry Robey and Gary Hitt. Snacks provided by: Janet and Amo’s Girl Scout Troop 1059 with Jenna, Eve, Lyndi, Carrington, Alie, Jordan, Olivia and Chantell; RCPS’s Parent Teacher Organization; Country Cafe; Thornton River Grille; Settle’s; Griffin Tavern, Flint Hill Public House; Mayhugh’s; Hackley’s; and Margaret Jenkins.
A special thanks to all who worked so hard assembling and spreading mulch: Charles Foster, Kathy Thornhill, Mitch May, Eddie Hottinger, Robin Bolt, Kevin Williams, Mylene Whorton, Temple Murray, Rob Devening, Eric Plaksin, Tina Kimble, Wendell Yates, Tonya Dobslaw, Glenn Gold, Tripp Barron, Adam Jenkins, Simon Fiscus, Tom Massie, John Genho, Alice Jones, Rachel Bynum, Gary Light, Jack Pullen, Tim Settle, Robert Gainer, Derek Vandrey, Michael and Sue Luthi, Daniel Hitt, John Lesinski, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Jones, Jeremy Miller, Art Smith, Brad Schneider, Rick and Melanie Marcus, Henry and Jr. and our very own RCES Farm to Table class, Trista Grigsby and students, and the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office – Connie Smith, John Arstino, Roger Jenkins, Janie Phillips, Cody Dodson, J.C. Welch, Gary Jenkins and Chris Ubben. And more: I’m proud of you Cathy Jones, Mike Tupper and Al Boone for jumping in there and shoveling and wheel-barrowing mulch until it was all distributed where it needed to be.
As in the movie, “Field of Dreams,” (“If you build it, they will come”), our community has built it – and now they will come for many years! So thank you to so many wonderful people who have come together for the love and safety of our children.
With sincere appreciation,
Vickie Jenkins Miller
