Letter: RAWL still needs your support

As was reported in last week’s Rappahannock News, the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL) recently received initial distribution of a substantial bequest from the estate of Paul and Patricia Baylor of Bealeton. The board of directors and staff of RAWL are very grateful for the generous act of this couple, and are also aware of the responsibility that it entails. This bequest will provide a very welcome “cushion” for RAWL, and we are looking carefully at investment options that provide the most favorable balance of security and return. We are also planning to dedicate a portion of this bequest to an endowment to address the plight of homeless and feral cats in the county, through spay neuter programs and other means.

While this bequest could be viewed as a “game changer” for RAWL, in reality it would be depleted in short order if it were relied upon to support the day-to-day operations of the shelter. It cannot replace the ongoing support and commitment of our generous benefactors and members in the community, but it can certainly enhance and broaden our mission. With your help, we will continue to provide the services that have made RAWL a vital and important part of Rappahannock County.

Jacque Towner
Secretary, RAWL
