Letter: Missing Annie Cooke’s big heart

I just returned from a funeral. It was uplifting, positive, and the standing-room-only crowd was almost joyful. Joyful because they loved Annie Cooke, and knew just where she was going! I first knew Annie as a customer at our store, later as the guardian of one of my students when I was teaching, and more recently as a co-member of the Amissville Christmas Baskets committee.

What a heart she had! Always taking care of others with her no-nonsense style, and her characteristic good humor. That will no doubt continue for eternity. She’s left a huge hole in the Amissville community. Her house was in Flint Hill, but she “lived” in Amissville. Her church was there, her community was there, I believe her heart was there, too. I will miss her, as will countless others as demonstrated today.
