Meetings and Notices for Aug. 30

The following will be closed Monday (Sept. 3) in observance of Labor Day and will reopen on Tuesday (Sept. 4): Rappahannock County government offices; Rappahannock County Public Schools; Union First Market Bank; BB&T Bank; Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Rappahannock News. The Rappahannock News has early deadlines for the Sept. 6 edition due to the holiday. All items for publication should be submitted no later than 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation will not operate on Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of Labor Day.

Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its monthly meeting 9:30 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 4) at the Washington fire hall. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 540-825-8591.

At 2 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 5), the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors meets at the courthouse on Gay Street in Washington. Agenda includes: high school window and HVAC project update; admissions tax; solid waste study; brush “fee free” proposal; health insurance benefits study; contract award-general reassessment; sheriff’s office compensation and retention study; stormwater management program; concession stands for youth athletics; August building permit report; tourism report; VDOT monthly report. For the 7 p.m. meeting: tax relief for the elderly and handicapped ordinance changes; sale of county-owned property on Bank Road.

Reminder: Household Hazardous Waste Pick-Up Day is Sept. 22, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at CFC Farm & Home Center.

At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, the Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority meets at the Rappahannock County courthouse on Gay Street.

Starting Sunday, Sept. 16, Little Fork Episcopal Church, 16461 Oak Shade Rd., Rixeyville, will change its Sunday worship service and starting times. The contemporary worship service with Holy Eucharist will begin at 8:30 a.m.; Christian education classes for children and adults (Sunday School) follow at 9:30 a.m.; and a worship service with the traditional Holy Eucharist, Rite 1, will be observed beginning at 11 a.m. Also on Sunday, Sept. 16, there will be an orientation and celebration of the new Christian Education program. Preparation lessons for confirmation (Nov. 11) will take place during the Sunday morning programs in September, October and November. Piedmont Softball Association is now accepting registrations for all area girls interested in its fast-pitch fall programs. Girls born 1992 through 2006 are welcome, as well as any skill level from beginner through very experienced. Games are played at the home field on U.S. 211 in Amissville as well as in surrounding counties.
