Election Day is Tuesday: details here

Election links

Next Tuesday (Nov. 6) is Election Day throughout the land, including the rolling fields, woods and mountains that the citizens of Rappahannock County call home.

Should you momentarily be distracted by the post-Sandy scenery and lose your way, the polling places – all of which are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday – are listed below, with addresses and phone numbers. The only change this election is that Stonewall-Hawthorne district voters now cast their ballots at the Castleton fire hall instead of their longtime polling place at Mount Lebanon Baptist in Scrabble.

Your ballot will ask for your choices for: President of the United States; the representative to Congress from Virginia’s 5th district; and one of Virginia’s two seats in the U.S. Senate. (If you’re still undecided, you might find some guidance on page 4.) You can also vote yes or no on two statewide referendum questions, one that seeks to strengthen the rights of private property owners in condemnation proceedings, the other allowing the General Assembly to delay the start of its annual veto session.

Due to closings after Hurricane Sandy, the local Registrar’s Office extended its hours for today (Thursday, Nov. 1) through Saturday, which is the last day to vote in-person absentee. (Though there is no “early voting” in Virginia, you can review online the legitimate reasons for applying to vote absentee at sbe.virginia.gov.)
