Hurricane Sandy has caused the displacement of many families in several states. As the cold weather approaches, several items are needed for families impacted by this detrimental storm. Coming together as a community, we can provide much-needed items to families who remain homeless, hope to families who have lost everything and a sense of community to our fellow Americans in need.

Donations can be sent to school with your child or dropped off in the main office. As a thank-you, the homeroom that brings in the most donations receives a little treat. Donations also can be dropped off at the Sperryville fire hall Tuesday through Thursday this week (Nov. 13-15) from 3:30 to 8 p.m.

We are hoping to have our first supply truck sent to New Jersey/New York at the beginning of Thanksgiving week.

We need batteries cleaning supplies, bleach, utility garbage bags, work gloves, shovels/rakes, mops and buckets, dust masks, extension cords, Rubbermaid-type totes, cardboard boxes, packing tape, basic first aid supplies (Neosporin, etc.), manual can openers, pet food, water, non-perishable foods, diapers, baby supplies (wipes, baby food, etc.), personal hygiene products (toothpaste, deodorant, soap, sanitary items), and clothing such as new socks and underwear.

If you have questions, please contact us at 540-987-8649 (evenings) or by email at lswannick@rappahannockschools.us. Thank you for all your generosity!
