The Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority meets tonight (Dec. 13) at the courthouse on Gay Street in Washington at 5:30 p.m.

The Rappahannock County Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday (Dec. 19) at the courthouse on Gay Street. Agenda includes a presentation by Brad White, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, on the Ground Water Characterization Program.

Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation will not operate Friday (Dec. 14) due to an in-service training.

The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association (NPBA) announces its spring 2013 seven-week course for all those interested in honeybees. Classes begin Feb. 5 and are held Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class “Meet-and-Greet” event for students is held Feb. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Verdun. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course fee of $100 per person or family. Registration is open; class size is limited and fills quickly each year. The Julia E. Boddie Scholarship Committee invites youths to enter its annual essay competition in celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Awards in several categories will be presented on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. during the 22nd annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at the Theatre at Washington.
