The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL) holds its annual meeting at the Rappahannock County Library at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28, in the Jamieson Room. 4-H Summer Camp registration takes place Feb. 1 at the extension office, 311 Gay St., Washington. The office opens at 8 a.m. Registration forms are delivered to schools (as well as at the extension office) on Jan. 29 and will not be accepted until Feb. 1, when those mailed will be opened in the order they were received. Eight teen counselors (15-19 years old) are being hired to work with the new 4-H travel camps (July 8-Aug. 2, weekdays). Pay is $350 per week. To apply for a CIT or teen counselor position, call the extension office at 540-675-3619.

The Rappahannock County Visitors Center is only open on holiday weekends from January to March. The center is open during President’s Day weekend (Feb. 15-18) and St. Patrick’s Day weekend (March 15-18). The center reopens with its regular weekend schedule April 5.
The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association (NPBA) announces its spring 2013 seven-week course for all those interested in honeybees. Classes begin Feb. 5 and are held Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class “Meet-and-Greet” event for students is held Feb. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Verdun. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course fee of $100 per person or family. Registration is open; class size is limited and fills quickly each year.
