I am one of the “Friends of Griffin,” the group that created and organized the Rappahannock Chili Cook-Off to benefit the Rappahannock Food Pantry, and I want to give some much-deserved thanks to all involved in this event.
First of all, a great amount of thanks goes to the generous people of Rappahannock County. This event raised $3,100 for the Food Pantry, proof positive that the people of Rappahannock care about those in need and are willing to give much of their hard-earned time and money. I am so tremendously proud to live in and be a part of this amazing community.
Second, I would like to thank all the businesses that gave their products and services to this wonderful event, including the Thornton River Grill, the Griffin Tavern, Chester Gap Cellars, Desert Rose Cellars, Pigs from a Gun Band, Turkey Ridge String Band, Rappahannock Cellars and Ed’s Awards in Culpeper.
Third, I would like to thank our many volunteers. The Friends of Griffin volunteers included Ronda Gregorio, Sean Spink, Scott Montgomery, Macy Montgomery, Will Montgomery, Wade White, Tami Benson, Scott Sellers, Carmen Gill, Brian and Heather Lilly, Rachel Rowland and Jason Campbell.
The Food Pantry volunteers included Sharon Kilpatrick, David Morrow, Carolyn Thornton, Gwen Bates, Georgia Gilpin and Mimi Forbes. Without the incredible generosity of our volunteers and business sponsors we would not have been able to successfully put this event together.
Lastly, I would like to thank all the people who took the time to enter a chili. By blind vote, Scott Montgomery took third place, Noel Laing took second place and first place went to Jeffrey Benson.
We are excited about making this an annual event. We hope to see the generosity of Rappahannock present itself at next year’s chili cook-off! A big thank you to all involved!
