The Washington Town Council is accepting letters of interest from residents wishing to be appointed to the Architectural Review Board through tomorrow (Friday, March 29). For more information, call the town hall at 540-675-3128.

The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors meets at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Monday (April 1) at the courthouse on Gay Street. At 2 p.m., agenda includes: EMS cost recovery; resolution, six-year reassessment cycle; RRCSB outpatient access; Brian Duncan, REC storm response; health insurance renewal with Local Choice; building code code appeals board appointments; CPMT potential appointment. The 7 p.m. agenda: Miller barn adaptive reuse permit.

A joint budget work session with the Rappahannock County School Board and Board of Supervisors is 7 p.m. Wednesday (April 3) in the RCHS auditorium.

All children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30 may enter kindergarten this August. Formal registration for new kindergartners is at from 9 to 11:30 and 1 to 3 p.m. (appointment only) April 9-11 at Rappahannock County Elementary School. Call the office (540-227-0200) to schedule an appointment.

The Rappahannock County Visitors Center reopens with its regular weekend schedule on Friday, April 5.

The Rappahannock County Garden Club is awarding the Francis J. Leonard Scholarship to a resident of Rappahannock County with financial need who is graduating high school and will be attending a two- or four-year college or trade school. The award is $1,000 for each of the first two semesters. Applicants are required to complete the Common Application for Local Scholarships 2013 and complete two essays of about 250 words each. The first essay describes why the student needs the scholarship and what other methods are being used to finance their education. The second essay requests that the student describe themselves, their achievements, and goals for future study and work. RCHS students can get an application from the guidance office; others may call Sandra Antony at 540-675-3707. Applications are due by April 2.

RAAC’s Claudia Mitchell Arts Fund extends its first formal grant application cycle from March 31 to April 30. The fund was established to encourage artistic talent in the Rappahannock community by providing financial assistance to both established and emerging artists. Spring 2013 Rappahannock County Soccer Association (RCSA) registration is open. All registration is online at (U6 players are $40, U8 are $80). Practices begin in late March.
