Independence Day was celebrated July 4 in spectacular fashion again this year at the Thornton Hill Hounds Racecourse. A large American flag furnished by B&B Signal Company flew high over the event, reminding everyone of the freedoms we enjoy each and every day. A good time was had by all and ended with a spectacular fireworks show and grand finale. The ambiance and character of the occasion made friends of the community and abroad proud to be Americans, as well as proud citizens of Rappahannock County.
The annual July 4th Celebration is sponsored by the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD). However, the success of the event is not possible without the generous contributions from our underwriters: Jamie, Lilla and Bill Fletcher, B&B Signal Co., Greve Foundation, Hampton Foundation, Greg Williams Tree & Landscaping Service, Cheri Woodard Realtors and Union First Market Bank. On behalf of SVFD members and Rappahannock County, the committee thanks the underwriters for their continued commitment to this community event, and asks that the public thank them personally when they see them out in the community.
In addition to the underwriters, 25 local corporate sponsors participated in this year’s festival. They consisted of local businesses and nonprofit organizations who celebrated Independence Day with their employees and families. Corporate sponsors are equally important to the sustainability of the event. The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department membership thanks them as well for their support.
Special thanks go out to the fire and rescue departments that participated in this year’s event. Their contributions are invaluable, not only to the event, but throughout the year as they provide emergency public service to the citizens of Rappahannock County. The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office is recognized for their efforts with event security and traffic control, and kudos to the Boy Scouts for their tireless efforts with parking vehicles. Good job by all!
Lastly, the July 4th Committee thanks all members of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department. They deserve a round of applause for their countless hours of hard work leading up to the celebration. They are committed volunteers with a desire to serve Rappahannock County. Thanks to our fellow members!
On behalf of the fire department, thanks to everyone else who attended and celebrated, as a community, our country’s independence. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
