Letter: We have lift-off, thanks to . . .

The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office hosted a helicopter ride fundraiser on Oct. 19 to raise funds for the Children’s Foundation and assist with the Shop with a Deputy program. The event was a huge success. So many people make such an event successful. This program and foundation is something that is near and dear to my heart.

As Sheriff of this county, I feel a need to let those less fortunate know that I am here to help during the holidays. Times are tough for everyone, and this program takes the stress off of families during the holiday season and puts a smile on the children’s faces.

I would like to thank American Helicopters for their generous donations to this program —  they supplied all the fuel and pilots, as well as the helicopters. Without them and their generous hearts, this event would have never happened.

I also would like to thank the Blue Rock Inn for providing such a beautiful, accessible piece of property. Without their donation of the fields, this event would not have had the success it did.

I cannot forget the off-duty deputies who worked this event. Their dedication to this program is one of the reasons it is so successful.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the citizens and the patrons of the event. Thanks to you and your donations, we should have an excellent year. We would also like to thank those citizens who did not take a ride, but did stop by to drop off a donation in support of our cause.

This event is something I hope to continue to do. Together as a community we can make Christmas a fun, exciting time of year for these children. Thanks to you as a community for all of your support of this wonderful, rewarding program.
