Visits to the Rappahannock County Visitors Center reached a record-high monthly tally of 600 last September, according to figures released by the county administrator’s office this week — numbers that also showed a steady annual rise in visits since the weekends-only facility opened in 2011.
In 2013, 2,664 visits were recorded at the center, which recorded 1,444 visits in 2011 and 2,161 in 2012. The most sustained monthly increases in visits came last year, from May through September.
Off U.S. 211 just east of the town of Washington, the center has free wifi and is open 9 to 5 Friday-Sunday (and holiday Mondays) except from January through March, when it’s open only holiday weekends. From now through April 4, when it resumes weekend hours, the center will open only for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 17-20), President’s Day (Feb. 14-17) and St. Patrick’s Day (March 14-16).
