Sperryville resident and Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District director Monira Rifaat was recognized with the Rappahannock River Watershed Connections Award at the Virginia Association of Conservation Districts’ annual meeting last month.
The award recognizes an outstanding conservation district director in each of Virginia’s major river basins for encouraging regional and watershed-based perspectives.
Rifaat, owner-operator of a cow-calf operation at Manor Farm since 1987, has been an active member of the Upper Rappahannock River Basin conservation community since she was appointed as an associate CSWCD board member in 2002. Since her appointment to full board membership in 2003, she has been re-elected each four-year cycle since. She served as chair of the Culpeper SWCD board from 2005-2008 and has since served as the legislative committee chair.
