Photos: Cell servicing

A Sprint PCS crew was hard at work Friday afternoon (June 8) and into the weekend on the 199-foot cell phone pole behind the Amissville fire hall, necessitating a vertical crane and basket to lift workers to Sprint’s antenna array. Their efforts temporarily knocked out service in the area, according to reports of residents, although it was restored Monday. The tower was extended to its current height by AT&T nearly three years ago, as was Sprint’s tower at Ben Venue, and though AT&T did install an antenna array on the Ben Venue extension, the Amissville tower is still a Sprint-only facility. AT&T also never built the three other towers for which it received approval in 2010.
