Rappahannock County’s Fourth of July Celebration spread out Friday among the green folds of the Thornton Hill Racecourse near Sperryville, attracting a near-record crowd of some 5,000, according to organizers of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual benefit, which included music, dry and sunny weather and (of course) fireworks.

This year also featured some food on wheels, in addition to the usual fun and friends (including the patriotically garbed Thornton Hill Racecourse owner Bill Fletcher, first row, middle picture, enjoying some shade Friday afternoon with his friend Doug Baumgardner). And don’t forget the excellent, not-humid weather.
