Seventeen members of Rappahannock’s Boy Scout Troop 36 (shown here at their first dining hall meal) spent a recent week at Camp Rock Enon, near Gore, for outdoor pursuits at the camp’s spring-fed lake, rock cliffs for climbing and nearby trails up to vistas of both the Allegheny Mountains to the west and the Blue Ridge to the east. Troop members also cooked some of their own meals (including the Troop 36 Swirly Mix dessert, which took first in the camp-wide Dutch Oven Cooking Contest); competed in relay races; applauded three Scouts and assistant Scoutmaster Jerry Bowerman’s induction into the Order of the Arrow; earned 44 merit badges and even performed “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” at the closing campfire. As Scoutmaster Roger Pierson put it: “The harmony was felt, in the heart, if not the ears.”
