Washington Ladies Auxiliary volunteers (from left) Louise Bondelid, Mary Collins and Shirley Franey present a framed print of Gilbert Stuart’s iconic portrait of George Washington to the Washington Town Council at the council’s meeting earlier this month. One of just three painted from actual sittings, it is the only one in which the first President is wearing his false teeth (hence the rather pained expression on his face), according to Bondelid, who restored the frame and backing of the print after it was donated to the Ladies Auxiliary. Mayor John Sullivan (right) immediately hung the portrait on a spare hook in the meeting hall.
