Warren Hospital cited again as top performer

Warren Memorial Hospital has been recognized for the second consecutive year as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, this time for 2013, by The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest health-care standards-setting and accrediting body.

According to The Joint Commission, the Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care.

Warren Memorial Hospital, owned by Valley Health, was recognized for its continued high performance in adhering to key quality measures for treating pneumonia and for surgery, scoring 99 percent in both categories. The Front Royal hospital is one of only 712 nationwide that accomplished this for two consecutive years. Warren’s score of 99 percent for pneumonia care is three points higher than last year’s, while surgical care held firm at 99 percent.

“Our team comes to work every day with the goal of providing phenomenal care to all of our patients, using scientifically proven treatments that produce the best results,” said Warren Memorial Hospital president Patrick Nolan in a press release. “This is a very collaborative effort that involves everyone from our physicians, front-line caregivers and managers to staff educators and performance improvement coordinators. Receiving Top Performer recognition a second time further validates our commitment to providing evidence-based care in the right way and at the right time.”

The hospital is one of approximately one-third of the nation’s Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that reported accountability-measure data for the year to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction. Top performing hospitals are listed in the commission’s 2014 annual report, “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety.” For details, visit jointcommission.org/topperformer.

Warren Memorial Hospital is a 180-bed not-for-profit hospital offering medical, surgical and diagnostic services; education, prevention and wellness programs; and short-stay skilled nursing/rehabilitation and long-term care.
