A damper on the library

After a steam pipe ruptured at Rappahannock County Elementary School’s library last week, flooring, ceiling tiles and an undetermined number of books were damaged by the leaked moisture. At Monday night’s school board budget meeting, superintendent Donna Matthews said the school is working on an assessment of damage, which she hopes will be covered by insurance, while staff and volunteers have been cleaning and drying books and shelves. A large majority of the library’s books survived intact, she said.
