Aftermath of the fire in Slate Mills. Matthew Black

On March 2, our home on Slate Mills Road was totally destroyed by fire. We want to thank all the fire companies and fire company personnel as well as the rescue squad folks who came to our aid. I would name them all, but won’t lest I leave someone out. You did an amazing job, and we were so fortunate to get out ourselves. Also, to the communities in Rappahannock County, churches, individuals and restaurants, who donated freely food, gift cards, monetary donations, clothes, etc., we appreciate you all and are truly grateful for your outpouring of love, concern, and support; even from strangers and new people in the community, we felt the love. We are totally awed and humbled by your generosity. Rappahannock is certainly a caring and giving county. We hope to be able to pass that care you gave us along to others in the future.

We cannot say “thank you” enough,

Jan Thomas and Steve Green
Slate Mills

P.S.: We also got our “Callie” cat back home with us, scared but in good shape for all she had been through. Thanks to those who fed and searched for her for nearly a week.
