Authorities say no one was seriously injured when the driver of a taxicab apparently fell asleep and crashed his vehicle into a house just after 1 a.m. Tuesday (May 12) in Sperryville. The vehicle involved was a taxi from Cville Taxicab in Charlottesville, headed north on Route 231. The cab flew past the stop sign where 231 ends at 522, crossed the lawn, went airborne and apparently struck the front stoop of the house, upended and fell over. The driver, 31-year-old Gary Lee Holsapple of Charlottesville, was charged by Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Lambert with reckless driving. Authorities said the occupants of the house, including former longtime Mount Vernon Farm manager Eddie Jenkins, were rudely awakened but uninjured.
